Budget? Let’s Just Say You Had a Better Shot at Winning the Kentucky Derby
The ASBA GR Team watches precisely one horse race per year, and tuned in Saturday to see the aptly named “Rich Strike” come from the back of the pack to win the Derby at odds of 80-1. Makes us wish we’d laid down a few Hamiltons on the winner, but then again so does everyone who watched. Hindsight is always 20/20.
That being said, 80-1 odds are better than the odds of seeing a Legislative budget this week, as both the House and Senate have adjourned until Monday, May 16. Legislative leadership says they’ve been meeting every day, but those meetings have yet to produce a plan that can be shopped to members, leaving the captiol a very quiet place the last few weeks.

Vision Screening Bill Headed to Governor’s Desk
The House voted 45-4 yesterday to send SB1319 schools; vision screening to the governor’s desk. The bill requires the Arizona Department of Health Services to consult with “recognized nonprofit organizations that provide free vision screening services, eyeglasses or examinations and opthalmologists, optometrists, school nurses, pediatricians and school administrators” when making rules about vision screening.
